4 C’s of diamonds
Cut- is a style or design guide used when shaping a diamond for polishing such as the brilliant cut. Cut does not refer to shape, but the symmetry, proportioning and polish of a diamond. The cut of a diamond greatly affects a diamond’s brilliance.
Some of the most common cuts are:
- Round
- Oval
- Pear
- Cushion
- Radiant
- Emerald
- Princess
- Heart
- Asscher
- Marquise

Clarity- is the quality of diamonds that relates to the existence and visual appearance of internal characteristics of a diamond called inclusions, and surface defects, called blemishes.
The GIA Diamond Clarity Scale has 6 categories, some of which are divided, for a total of 11 specific grades:
- Flawless (FL)
- Internally Flawless (IF)
- Very, Very Slightly Included (VVS1 and VVS2)
- Very Slightly Included (VS1 and VS2)
- Slightly Included (SI1 and SI2)
- Included (I1, I2, and I3)

Color- describes how chemically pure and structurally perfect diamond is perfectly transparent with no hue, or color.
GIA grades a diamond on a scale from D, colorless, to Z, light color.

Carat- it may be the most talked about description of diamonds, as it refers to the weight of a diamond.
1 carat = 0.2 grams
